Its finally time for the Gothenburg production of Wicked
Merch table. I bought some candy (pastiller)
Might write out some more coherent thoughts later if I ever manage to write them down, but act one just finished and some initial thoughts:
The hands on the clock on the curtain started turning with the overture (as well as some additional made from light), the dragons eye shone red and green lights like traveled around the clock and on top of the dragon. Looked cool. The curtain during intermission has the lights on.
The trio is FANTASTIC. Obviously recency bias but this Fiyero might be my favourite ever.
Elphaba and Glinda are very gay. I have always understood Gelphie but now I Understand, like something clicked.
It’s weird with non-replica since I’m beyond used to the original, but I think overall I like it. Especially the school costumes stand out to me right now.
The metal tower thing was used to reveal the cage for the monkeys post transformation, which I really liked.
My mouth was on the FLOOR after Defying Gravity. She first hovered maybe two meters over the floor, then out over the audience (I am in middle of row 12 and she flew above my head and stopped right over maybe row 14), then up to eye level with second or third balcony for the final riff, the up through the (inner) roof. Was a bit worried beforehand about the flying not being as hype, but they truly delivered.
Late second act thoughts:
Not a fan of them adding environmental soumds etc, made it more diffucult to hear both the singing and orchestra. It wasnt all the time, but still distracting.
A bit let down by Thank Goodness but I also had high expectations given that its one of my favourite songs.
Once again just kudos to the cast, they were great!
Not as big fan of the second act overall as I was the first, but honestly that might have been the high of Defying Gravity.
Overall an interesting show, need some time to reflect but as of now I liked it, even though some changes were for the worse imo (screen background in some scenes to mention one). Either way, it reminded me of how much I love Wicked and I am sad that I probably wont be able to see it again.
